Written in Stone – Reviving 2000 Years of Jewish History

Help us restore Israel's ancient synagogues and preserve their heritage for future generations.

Uncover the Mysteries of Jewish History

Written in Stone – The Story of the Jewish People

Hundreds of ancient synagogues are scattered throughout Israel. Some small and modest, while other large and impressive. Some well-preserved, and others, sadly, nearly ruined.

All have a story to tell – the story of the community that once built, gathered and prayed in them. Their story is also ours and it must be preserved – in words and stone.

Make History – Adopt a Synagogue

These beautiful sites tell an important story of a diverse Jewish identity and history. Our mission is to keep their spirits alive and promote them as attractive sites for visitors. These marvelous ancient synagogues are to be found across the Land of Israel.

Now, you can "adopt" an ancient synagogue. With your support we can uncover stories of ancient Jewish communities and build direct connections between your community and a piece of Israel's heritage.

Unveil the Wonders of the Past

Preserving these ancient synagogues and cities takes skill, knowledge and funding. The INHFA, along with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, conserve and preserve vital historical sites, that are important in Jewish heritage. Together, the two work towards the restoration and conservation of Israel's most important ancient synagogues.

It is thanks to our partners and worldwide donors, that our conservation teams can preserve these ancient treasures in Israel, and in so  doing so, we can make culture and history more accessible to future generations.
